Oh for fucks sake.
So there’s a new set of Verizon commercials out right now featuring a mother and daughter reacting to the child moving away and a father and son reacting to the child moving away. The women are sobbing wrecks, barely able to communicate with each other. The men are grunting quasi-cavemen, unable to express even the slightest emotional reaction because they’re “Real Men”.
This is the type of tired bullshit I’m so sick of seeing on television. When are advertisers going to stop pushing this “Real men, weak women” bullshit on us? Being an emotionally unavailable caveman is absolutely nothing to be proud of. Stop trying to shame me into conforming to your disgustingly outdated ways of thinking. Stop portraying women as nothing more than irrational explosions of uncontrollable emotions. That shit is gross as hell. Contrary to your 1940s mode of thinking, women don’t spend 23 hours a day crying about fucking EVERYTHING. Knock that weak bullshit off.
Who the fuck are you to decide what a man can and can not be proud of? Or to decide that a man exercising his right to be discreet in his emotional release is a “caveman”? This whole thing reads like “Real men cry,” and that smacks of the same exclusionary bullshit as “Real women have curves”. Not all men are willing to let the tears flow in front of just anybody, even their friends, and that doesn’t make them any less evolved than you seem to think you are.
Who the fuck am I? I’m the dude who refuses to conform to a lifestyle dictated by out of touch advertising companies. I’m the dude that has a problem with advertisers treating women as nothing more than pathetic crybabies who can’t function in the real world without unlimited text message plans. I’m the dude who hates all the negativity that advertisers use to get people to buy their unnecessary bullshit. That’s who the fuck I am.
Well aren’t you just the most special little boy ever? Look at you go! Buck that system, little buddy!
Since you utterly failed to address anything except the perceived slight to your clearly titanic manhood, I’m going to have to assume you concede my point. When you want to talk about grown-up issues, you need to do it like a grown-up and probably not so much like a self-impressed liberal arts major in the fifth year of his Associate’s.
Who you are doesn’t fucking matter in the least, when the point is that no one is allowed to dictate such things. Not advertisers, or friends, or the government, or some tantrum throwing Tumblrer. I’m sure that you feel oh-so-tingly in your furry nethers whenever you sense that someone, somewhere, might be reinforcing a stereotype, but the fact is it does hold true for some, and your rather unsubtle attempt to diminish those males who don’t outwardly express emotions in the same robust way as you… clearly do… as being somehow less than you? Fuck you. You can beat your chest all night long if you want, but you haven’t got a leg to stand on in that argument.
